About Blairsville, GA
In the early 1800s, the Blue Ridge Mountains were renowned for gold production, and many of the settlers landed here during the Gold Rush. By the 1830s, Blairsville was a small town and in 1835, it was the only incorporated town in Union County. The town is named after James Blair, a Revolutionary War hero. The town continued as a center for gold mining until the 1910s.
In 1926, developers completed the first paved road in the county, running from Cleveland, Georgia to Northern Carolina. During this time, the United States began purchasing large land plots, preserving the Georgia National Forest, or what we call today, the Chattahoochee National Forest.
In 1942, the Nottely River was dammed, creating Lake Nottely. This reservoir is used to generate hydroelectric power and brought electrification to the rural areas of Blairsville. Today, Lake Nottely is home to some of the area's most exclusive homes and is the best spot for local, recreational watersports.

Northwest Nottely
