Union County

About Blairsville, GA

In the early 1800s, the Blue Ridge Mountains were renowned for gold production, and many of the settlers landed here during the Gold Rush. By the 1830s, Blairsville was a small town and in 1835, it was the only incorporated town in Union County. The town is named after James Blair, a Revolutionary War hero. The town continued as a center for gold mining until the 1910s. 

In 1926, developers completed the first paved road in the county, running from Cleveland, Georgia to Northern Carolina. During this time, the United States began purchasing large land plots, preserving the Georgia National Forest, or what we call today, the Chattahoochee National Forest. 

In 1942, the Nottely River was dammed, creating Lake Nottely. This reservoir is used to generate hydroelectric power and brought electrification to the rural areas of Blairsville. Today, Lake Nottely is home to some of the area's most exclusive homes and is the best spot for local, recreational watersports.

Neighborhoods in Blairsville, GA

Life in Blairsville is quite serene, with many homes boasting expansive backyards and property. The area offers great dining and fun, family-friendly activities, not to mention pristine views, and outdoor fun. Own Glen

Owen Glen is located just nine minutes north of downtown Blairsville. It is an exclusive gated community with a community club, private golf course, hiking trails, and access to Ivylog Creek.

Murphy Highway

Murphy Highway residents are blessed with gorgeous views. Located just 5.6 miles north of Blairsville, homes here are situated between the Blue Ridge Mountains, Nottely Lake, and Canal Lake. There are many small local businesses here, and many of the residents pride themselves on the entrepreneurial spirit of Murphy Highway.

Northwest Nottely

Northwest Nottely is located next to Lake Nottely, and is a great escape for anyone who loves being out on the water. Waterfront properties here make it easy to enjoy the lake at any time of the year.

City Center

The rural City Center of Blairsville, Georgia is highly desirable. Here, you will primarily find farmers, fishermen, and others enjoying their retirement. This neighborhood is peaceful, quiet, and quite rural.

Lance Mill / Bethlehem

In the Lance Mill / Bethlehem neighborhood, you will find medium-sized homes. The area is predominantly older residents who own their homes. 

Suches / Gaddistown

Suches is another rural neighborhood, and one of the least crowded areas. You can expect wide-open spaces and plenty of property.
